Background:

Every bag of this coffee begins with a community. In the heart of Colombia's Huila region, Coocentral is a farmer-owned cooperative bringing together more than 3,400 small-scale coffee growers under one guiding principle: "A big family serving coffee producers and dedicated to the development of the region."

Most members farm just two to three hectares on the lush mountain slopes between 1,400 and 2,000 metres above sea level. Here, varieties such as Caturra, Castillo and Colombia thrive in rich volcanic soils and an ideal coffee-growing climate.

Coffee production is a true labour of love. Ripe cherries are hand-picked at peak sweetness, pulped on the farm, then carefully fermented for 24 to 36 hours before being washed and dried under the Colombian sun on covered drying beds. Even the discarded coffee cherry is returned to the soil as natural compost, helping nourish future harvests.

But Coocentral is far more than a coffee buyer. Since 2005, the cooperative has invested over US$2.8 million in programmes that improve the lives of its members and their families. These include university scholarships, healthcare support, life insurance, pensions, farm improvements and education for the next generation of coffee growers. Initiatives such as the Mujeres Cafeteras programme also empower women to become leaders and successful entrepreneurs within their communities.

This coffee comes from southern Huila, a region celebrated for producing coffees with vibrant acidity, a full body and a wonderfully sweet, lingering finish.

Every cup is a reflection of exceptional craftsmanship, sustainable farming and a cooperative committed to creating a better future—one harvest at a time.
